The Casa Grande RC Flyers, an award-winning Academy of Model Aeronautics radio control hobby club, has set its schedule for major winter season events. All events are free, open to the public and held at the group’s airfield at 2725 S. Isom Road in Casa Grande, which is across from the public shooting range. Events support local charities that have representatives on hand to accept any donations offered.
Major event hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. the second Saturday of the month. The first event will be held Nov. 12 in celebration of National Model Aviation Day and will benefit the Hospice Charitable Fund of Central Arizona. The club has supported hospice the last four years.
The next event will be Dec. 10 and is the group’s annual Food Bank Fly-In, benefitting Casa Grande Food Bank for the ninth year. On Jan. 14, 2023, the Flyers will hold their ninth Fly-In for Pets benefitting the Valley Humane Society.
Feb. 11 will be another charity event for pets — the fifth annual P.I.N.A.L. Fly-In will raise money for the Pet’s in Need Action League. Lastly, on March 11, the club will hold their 9th annual Air Show — its most popular event. This year’s air show will benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sun Corridor.
At each event, the club will hold a swap meet featuring radio control items for aircraft among other items. Food service usually is offered; parking is free.
The club also holds weekly “combat” dog fights and “glider” contests every Thursday starting at 10 a.m. at time to be set later in November and continuing through March. There also are monthly Drone & Helicopter Day events and radio control car races among other activities all of which are listed on the club’s website: www.CasaGrandeRCFlyers.com.
The club’s award-winning facilities include two paved runways with a third cross wind runway and “petro mat” runway, a radio control car race track and drag race track, an onsite weather station with remote access, spectator bleachers for over 100 guests, a drone and helicopter pad with special flying area, a separate swap meet area, and much more.
The Casa Grande RC Flyers is an Arizona nonprofit dedicated to promoting the hobby of model aviation and helping the community. Membership and other information can be found on the website.
